There’s nothing more iconic than receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It solidifies their place as a Hollywood legend and pretty much guarantees they will live on forever. But the process of receiving a star isn’t just based on a star’s merit or achievements — although that’s important, too. They have to be nominated and pay for the star themselves! Anyone can nominate a person who’s active in music, television, or movies — even a fan! It does, however, cost $50,000 for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, so just know that as someone will have to foot the bill.

Each year, the the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives hundreds of nominations but only selects 20-24 to receive a star. Many of our favorite celebrities have received a star, with the ceremony usually involving a few speeches from important people in their lives. (Fans can also attend a ceremony, as they are free and open to the public.) Once it’s over, the star is placed on the sidewalk among the others and remains there forever.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of the main tourist attractions in Hollywood and it draws large crowds every day. It’s one of the oldest and most cherished traditions in Hollywood, and we can look forward to many more of our favorite stars receiving one.

Here is a list of 40 celebrities who have received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Full details of upcoming ceremonies (and past ones) can be found on the Hollywood Walk of Fame website.1/42
